What is a British film?

                                                            kidulthood

A predominantly British cast and crew?

The film 'kidulthood' is a British style film with mainly containing actor's with a home background, actors which are British.  Actors such as:

aml ameen- 30 July,1985, born in London
Adam Deaccon- March 4,1983, born in London
Jaime Winston- 6th may, 1985,Camden, London

These actors are all born and raised in London, whether they perfectly fit the role of their character correlating towards how they actually are depends on the actors themselves, however their roles were fascinating and it made a fantastic blockbuster, those 3 aren't the only 3 British actors that took part in this blockbuster, this kind of blockbuster is intriguing towards people living in London today.

British funding?

The funding for kidulthood received its funding from the UK film council. Revolver Entertainment received about £6/000/000 to produce this film which is a short budget for a film compared to other fantastic blockbuster, the funding came from the UK film council as an attempt to bring a broad range of films to the audiences to the UK.

Discussions of issues which are pertinent to British audiences in particular?/ British target audience?

One thing that is discussed that is pertinent to British film are the mise en scene. The conventions of the way their portrayed. For example, When people think of England, especially in the de-modernized time's people would think of class, tolerance and intelligence. Every local to business men wearing smart, sophisticated clothing. Discussion affiliate around the idea of the way British films are portrayed today and how they compare and contrast to the older times. British audiences today have a far different understanding to the idea of 'Britain' compared to foreigners and tourist all around the world who would think of coming to settle down or visit Britain.
Secondly, the idea of 'British heritage' is intriguing, Kidulthood in this sense. is a more modernized British blockbuster which has been lowly funded like kidulthood doesn't reinforce the idea of 'British Heritage' and also illustrates to the viewer that England is a nation living outside of London. Also, especially when talking about kidulthood the 'multi-ethnic' society of Britain today has pertinent effect on British audiences. Different styles of genre can also be consider when talking about broad and basic issues to the target audience.

The British target audience range from the ages of 13/14-30 year old , this is because there are links between the actor's roles and the British people of today compared the older realization of British illustration. However, the target audience can be anyone who takes interest in this style of Blockbusters where people of younger and older issues can relate and understand what the character is trying to portray because in some way they are living similar life styles.

Representation of Britain and the British way of life?

The representation, of Britain and 'Britishness' can be referred to today's society or in the 20th century where films were first created, in this case, kidulthood illustrates a more understandable style of britishness in the blockbuster where a more dangerous life style in London was shown, it shows people in groups called gangs and people back-stabbing each other. Where trust is a rare gem to find in the distorted society that they live in, controlled by a hateful democracy and groups which control areas that kill one another through physical violence and with armed weaponry, in this case knifes. However Britain overall, and the British way of life isn't revolved around that, with more class shown in the blockbuster as well, daily busy streets with people specializing in their job.

                                                         Inbetweeners

A predominantly British cast and crew?

The Inbetweeners is a British style film which was casted in London in 2011. The actor's which are famously known are of all different ages and appear to be from Britain or wales.

Simon Bird, August 19th, 1984 (age 30) - English actor
Joe Thompson, 28th October , 1983 (age 31)- English actor
Greg Davies, May 14th, 1968 (age 46) - Welsh actor

Pretty much all of these actors are British or Welsh, this reinforces the idea of 'Britishness' portrayed in the film since the background of the narrative has a broad range British background which tells the viewer and producers using British actors and crew is really effective for the idea of it being a British film. However, this ideology of non-ethnic multi cultural society which is not presented in the film when comparing to the people living in London might have a diverse effect to the understatement of 'Britishness' and how the British film industry and this film for example has developed with British actors.

British funding?

The Inbetweeners film in 2011 has been announced by the producers and channel 4 that it will spend a budget of just £1,000,00 which is only a neutral amount compared to other highly good expected films such as spider man which costed £200,000,000. The film council must have thought that the idea of this film was brilliant and that it didn't need a immense amount of explicit money to produce a fantastic film in this sense, comedies don't cost as much as action packed films or sci-fi films that has a huge budget expense and only using £1,000,000 is not a much of a risk even if it were to become a failure.

Discussions of issues which are pertinent to British audiences in particular?/British target audience?

One issue which is pertinent to British audiences is through the way in which the film is portrayed, this can be specified through the genre conventions or the idea of British people. The older generations might think British film's should be portrayed with a sophisticated story line, one where the viewer can think through and analyse the plot such as Veritgo. However, today's more modernized and detailed story line with actions packed CGI where every bit of detail is portrayed could also be an understanding topic when correlating towards the idea of British films. For example, the inbetweeners has a very basic story line where and everything is illustrated through out the film.

Representation of Britain and the British way of life?

The representation of Britain and British lifestyle is very clear and powerful in the Inbetweeners, the surroundings look very much like London, the small corners and areas with houses of similar style closely packed together. Secondly, the school uniform and and the people around the similar ages being around each other in classes also tells the viewer the scenes are set in London.
Thirdly, idea that they travel as school students also reinforces the idea of British life styles around people of that age (16-24).
