How do audiences consume film and has this consumption changed over the years?

There are two different types of aspects to how audiences can view films. The first concerns the technologies via which films and film information is consumed and the second concerns the relationship between the viewer's attitude and those presented within the film.

Audiences consumptions of film:

One way in which audiences consume film and one way in which this consumption has changed over the years is through the technological devices and formats created by film makers and producers. Unique experiences can has a broad effect on the personal understanding of the viewers when they watch films from mainstream film companies or independent film companies. Different people has different thought processes and have different understanding and view point on what's being portrayed to them, especially if it were to be in a multiplex auditorium with different reactions from other people. The the rapid advancement of technology and filming formats that can be portrayed to a wide field of audiences all reinforce the idea that the audiences consume film in different ways, whether it be for a non-theoretical reason or for independent enjoyment.
For example, rather than downloading a film on the computer you can just download a film/movie app on your phone and stream it from the comfort of your own home. This creates a positive effect on the audiences who consume film because they have a wider range of accessibility to choose from.
Viewers also have different experiences on other platforms which reinforces the idea of unique consumption of the film itself and this has dramatically changed over the years and the usage of diverse technology has grown juts as much as multiplex film industries. For example, different platforms of film consumption gives the audiences different ways of enjoyment and a certain group of audiences would prefer one over another; platforms such as DVD's, big screens or online videos.
However a wide group of 'customer consumers' and the development of film consumption can only go so far for other audiences; this means that a group of particular viewers will always want the thrill of watching a film on a massive screen in a cinematic auditorium filled with other people who either have different or have reactions that correlate in the same way. This also means that being surrounded with a group of people who have a niche interest can give you a more enjoyable consumption of the film(if they're with their friends or family for example). This 'collective viewing experience of surrounding customer consumers' also reinforces the idea that audiences consume film in a more technological way and consume it in a wider technological field of exportation in the world of film.

Do film consumers view different films at home, and do they have a different response to the films that they view there?
The consumption of film can be illustrated in different ways when watching a film in the comfort of your own home. Yes, people do watch different genre style films in their own home. This idea can refer to a illegal consumption, films on the internet portrayed on webpages which release films on the internet that haven't been released legally in the country and in multiplex cinemas. Viewing a film at home means that you can respond in any type of manner you wish, whilst your not stuck in a auditorium of 50 people+, you can have any type of response you like without bothering anyone and fully know that you can consciously completely enjoy the film as you please. The issue in the changing nature of of film consumption in relation to developing viewing technologies could be researched through discussion with older members of your family. Basically, when talking about the 'changing nature of film consumption', discussion can be justified through older people(parents/grand parents) who have grown and managed to adapt with the rapid technological change with luxury film industries. People of different generations and that have been introduced to cinemas and the world of film definitely have different consumptions and personal interest of what independent and multiplex cinemas have to offer; the development of film through CGI,cameras, editing and equipment justified this statement.  Collaborative research between older views who have a different perception of films and who have grown and witnessed the growth and change of 'film consumption also reinforce the idea different audiences consume different genre convention style films and that the consumption of film has changed over the years.
Another way in which the consumption of audiences has changed over the years is is through the technological devices giving audiences a broader field of abilities to access their content. Devices with different search engines and different ways to save what you want to  watch(webpages/bookmarks. Youtube/playlist. Phones which have apps.) and these views of viewing interaction with what the 'customer consumer' wants to watch has drastically changed how people all over the world who use technology, whether it be only a bit or an advanced piece of technology has completely changed how quickly and how efficiently they want to access their content. Of course, these are examples of mainstream videos being streamed at home, not in a cinema auditorium.

Film consumption:

One way in which audiences consume film and one way in which this consumption has changed over the years is through audience profile. The certification for example, its possible to identify specific types of audiences/viewers for different films and age certification is a key example.  People who view films in the cinema don't necessarily have to be the specific age that the certification has given, its completely fine if the older people who are older also watch these films with their friends, family or all by themselves, whether it be in the cinema or at home. However, people that are aged below the age rating shouldn't be watching these films. In the modernized world of today, in 2014, security is a must in a multiplex cinema and age certification is imperative and is checked before they sell the tickets. Ordinarily, people who work at cinemas ask people for proof of their age and identity. For example, if a film has a specific age rating of 18+, then ID or bank card must be shown as justification of your age. So people watching films in the cinema is controlled. However, anyone can just get a another person's bank card or ID that looks like them and they'll be allowed in, if they get caught(which is a crime by the way) they'll get into a lot of trouble.
On the other hand, people who are desperate to watch these films in the cinema for pure enjoyment or any other reason and who can't get through because they are under age will most likely just watch it at home and download a pirated copy or juts get their parents credit card and pay for the film which can be portrayed in the internet through business webpages or other applicable platforms such as Netlfix. Also, genre reinforces the way people consume film and how film consumption has changed over time, is through genre. Genre certainly plays a part in the profile of audiences for particular films. Generic reference also applies to the idea of different kinds of film consumptions. You can't simply say that a wider target audience of men would prefer watching action packed blockbusters( Fast and the furious 6) and that a wide range of woman prefer to watch lovely romantic films (The 40 year old virgin)  because there can be a group of audiences who are just woman that take an interest in  both, similarly with the men,or neither to be honest.  Also genre recognition reinforces the development of audiences consuming films differently over the years. This has been done through the dominance of a specific of a gender in a specific area of a film. For example, a massive group of people that are men would rather prefer to watch Kick-ass than woman, In the same way female dominance is portrayed in a 'chick flick' where a small amount of men would take interest in those whether they'd be portrayed in a multiplex cinema or through a independent film institution.
Also, multiplex filming institutions providing 'expected generic elements' for target audiences, done through previous films that have received feed back or a sequel of another great film or just a unexpected success are essential to the development of filming institutions and all reinforces the idea that people consume films and have a done so differently compared to the consuming audiences who have done so watching films in black and white with no special effects.

Another way in which the audiences consume film and another way in which the consumption of films as changed over the years is through mainstream and independent film companies.
When specifically talking about multiplex cinema, they have offered all unique ways to enjoy a film over the last 20-30 years.  A bit of air blown from beneath your feet in the cinema when a intensive scene is displayed and having 3D goggles is a interesting factor to consider. Multiplex cinemas which has special effects and CGI(computer generated images) and independent film companies offer a unique range of interest. First of all independent film institutions run outside the main film companies but are known to be successful and are portrayed at festivals for enjoyment theoretical reasons.
A festival portraying a film can bring in a lot of money and this idea also back ups the idea that film consumption has changed over the years. The streaming of films is so famous that its being portrayed outside the cinema to so many people and this type of film consumption is very intriguing. They also have unique patterns of distribution, different types of narrative, a mind teaser ending and much more. Demographic multiplex mainstream cinema audiences range from about the ages 14-24 and this broad field of different age groups bring in an immense amount of money to the box-office, not saying that people outside this age group don't bring in a massive amount of money from hit blockbusters but that age group is the most noticeable.  Also, independent film audiences are hard to describe, they don't tend to take such a great amount of interest in ordinary films so its hard to justify what they specifically like but they're examples of the changes of the consumption that people have taken over the last 2-3 decades.

Relationship between the viewer and the film:
In mu opinion, viewers consume film in all different aspects and platforms. People that range from short to high attention spans take interest in all sorts of genres, this can determine the distinction between age, gender, ethnicity and personal experiences and correlative interest. 7 Billion people with 7 billion personalities will either stabilize or de-stabilize all sorts of big hits, block busters and other releases because the 'customer consumers' are the main reason why the film development has changed for the better and will continue to change with improvements.

Context for film assumption:
Why do so many people visit multiplex cinema's?

Most likely over convenience and choice and especially over the technological development and high quality production. People who have a ignorant and broad understanding of what they might expect from a film industry. Friends and families who have these interest might influence their opinion, however their interest could lie in a independent filming institution which offer aspects and building blocks of the film that the standard cinema auditorium might not offer. Mainly, people visit these these multiplex cinema since it is much more convenient and easier to enjoy. Another reason why people go ti multiplex cinema's is through the aspects of the cinema which they offer. They officer the foundations of everything that has been developing since the film itself has developed after WWII. CGI is a immense factor and development of the reason why people multiplex cinemas.
